The first look at Nicolas Cage as Dracula in horror-comedy Renfield has arrived. He looks amazing as the iconic bloodsucker.

Cage will be a side character in Renfield – a new telling of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel. The story will focus on the asylum patient that worships the mysterious Count rather than Mina and Jonathan Harker. Based on what has been released so far, they’re going to be lampooning Tod Browning’s 1931 take that starred Bela Lugosi as Dracula and Dwight Frye as Renfield.

They’re even using the same title design.

On Set Photos of Nicholas Cage as Dracula

I was already all in for this project when Cage was cast as Dracula – I’m biased, I’m a huge fan. This costume, though? It makes it. The corpse makeup, the rings, and the velvet suit are amazing. Make sure you check out the rest of the photos here.

Renfield Cast & Crew

In this tale, the ancient vampire’s acolyte will be played by Nicholas Hoult. The cast also includes Ben Schwartz, Awkwafina, and Shohreh Aghdashloo.

Ryan Ridley (known for Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty) has written the script based on a story by Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), Chris McKay (The Lego Movie, Tomorrow War) is directing. Kirkman compared the tone of the project to Invincible; telling the Fat Man Beyond Podcast:

“We’re doing this cool movie for Universal that’s a focus on Renfield. It’s a story about him being Dracula’s henchman and how shitty a job that is. It’s a fun, extremely violent comedy because I’ve got a crutch, and it’s violence.”

Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man moved off the classic re-make formula and it really benefits from it. It also made bank at the box office. Hopefully, Renfield will be able to do the same. I’m willing to give it a shot based on the names attached to it. We’ll find out how well they do next year when the movie hits theaters.
