Upcoming video game, Star Wars: Eclipse is seeing major delays due to in-house issues with studio Quantic Dream.

Only a few months ago we first heard about the galaxy’s next major console game, Star Wars: Eclipse. And now it looks like we will be waiting even longer to finally play it.

Everything We Know About Star Wars: Eclipse

Between movies, live-action shows, books, and the Halcyon Starcruiser just to name a few, the Star Wars camp has been extra busy creating original content. And Star Wars: Eclipse is one of the biggest and most mysterious projects on the docket. Not many specifics are known about the game yet.

We know that it will be a game that gives the player the opportunity to make real in-game choices with real in-game consequences. Player choices and their choice of character will matter greatly, “each with their own morality, personality, motivations, and impact upon each other and the story at large.” It’s a departure from the Quantic standard and will likely make Star Wars: Eclipse fresh for numerous replays.

We also know that Star Wars: Eclipse is supposed to be set in the era of the High Republic, hundreds of years before the Skywalker Saga. Star Wars has been introducing fans to more and more of the High Republic through recent books and comics. It’s still one of the eras of the Galaxy that fewer people know a lot about.

With such an under-utilized era, Star Wars: Eclipse has the potential to be a fairly original game with a complietely unique story. We will see new characters, aliens, and unexplored parts of the outer rim still unknown to us.

Quantin Dream Experiences Problems

And that all sounds very cool. But while last we heard there would be a three to four year wait time for development, it looks like the timetable has been pushed back even further.

Reported issues within Quantin Dream, including LGBT+ misrepresentation, sexual harassment, and issues hiring and keeping employees is all forming a perfect storm of delays. Meaning that the 2023-2025 release of last year is looking a lot more like a 2027-2028 release now. It’s unfortunate, and we’re disappointed to see the delay in the game.

But this is hardly a surprising turn of events for Quantic. The studio has seen years with of accusations of a toxic workplace environment and harassment. Hopefully they will get these issues resolved once and fore all soon. Star Wars: Eclipse should be the product of healthy developers and a good studio. I think we’re all at least a little curious to see more after December’s trailer.
