Warhammer 40K: Astra Militarum Needs Some New Heroes
The Astra Militarum needs some new Hero Characters in there ranks. Let’s chat.
Quick, pick a named Astra Militarum Character that’s not MIA, has a model, and isn’t named Yarrick! Does that character look like Rambo, the Terminator, or a mix of both? Perhaps they are in a fancy suit or tank? Maybe a Commissar? Are they female?

When it comes to heroic characters the Astra Militarum should be swimming in them. But sadly they just aren’t. There’s only a handful of models with rules that aren’t MIA still around.
Cadia might still “Stand” but Creed and Kell? Eh….debatable.
And the ones that are still around are really based off of two iconic 80’s action heroes…
Rambo, The Terminator, or Both. Sorry, I mean Sly Marbo, Straken, and Harker.
It’s also hard to have a named character be a “tank” and still have legs, too:

Where did all the heroes of the Astra Militarum go?
Gone. Like Ghosts…or at least out of stock miniatures.
In the Grimdark, I get that Space Marines are the posterboys of the game. They get all the attention and a bunch of miniatures. I’m not saying they shouldn’t, either. I’m just saying that some of the attention should also be spread around to the other factions, too. The Astra Militarum is a faction that needs a new book. And they are on the short list, too.
I don’t know the production times or cycles for Games Workshop. I don’t know if it’s too late or way to early to plant those seeds. But I’m hoping that GW at least considers adding some fresh faces to the Astra Militarum roster in the form of some new named characters. They literally have the length and breadth of Humanity to work with here. Plus those new Gaunt’s Ghosts miniatures were pretty awesome.
Maybe it was this week’s Rumor Engine that got my hopes up. And I am actually hopeful that the Astra Militarum will get at least a new unit or two when they get a Codex Update. Who knows? It might be more that just plastic Kasrkin models (but those would be pretty sweet). We just might see some new named heroes show up in the Imperium!
