Warhammer 40K: The 5 Best Versions of Power Armour
Today we’re doing the impossible. We’re picking our 5 favorite versions of Power Armour. This might be heresy.
Games Workshop put out a loremaster article listing the various types of Power Armour. You can go check that out if you need a refresher. But it got us here at BoLS thinking about which are the best versions. We decided to rank them from least favorite to the best version. Keep in mind there are really 9 total versions and we’ve cut that down to just 5 — that means if the Power Armour is on this list, it’s already a cut above the rest!
#5 Mark VI ‘Corvus Armour’
Everyone loves the classic “beaky” marine look! We’re starting with the Corvus Pattern in at #5. It’s still a cool look and maybe one day those style helmets will make a Primaris-style return.
#4 Mk VIII ‘Errant Armour’
This version of Power Armour is one of the most advanced suits ever constructed. Built on the bones of the ubiquitous Mk VII ‘Aquila Armour’ this version increased the protection even further. If “best” means “protects it’s bearer the most” then this suit has to be up there.
#3 Mk V ‘Heresy Armour’
The Heresy Armour was created during the Heresy Era and it’s design shows it. This armour was used as a bit of a stop-gap to help equip marines with their much need Power Armour — hence the roughshod design. This armour was rushed to completion and it shows. But that’s also what makes it so cool. You had to be a badass to go to war in this “unfinished” Power Armour.
#2 Mark IV ‘Maximus Armour’
Maximus Armour is the bee’s knees when it comes to old school Power Armour. This set was so good that any that survived to the 41st millennium basically became chapter relics. This version was being sent out to various chapters and was supposed to be the “final” form of Power Armour…but then this little thing happened call the Horus Heresy and changed the galaxy forever.
#1 Mk X ‘Tacticus Armour’
It took 10,000 years to improve on Power Armour but the Primaris version really did it. Not only are the Marines in Primaris Mk X ‘Tacticus Amour’ better protected than their counterparts, they are also just plain bigger and better looking. The Mk X pattern is also the best yet because of its versatility. It’s a modular design that can be refitted with different ceramite plating that allows it to fill a variety of tactical roles. That’s why you see other ‘Gravis’ or ‘Phobos’ patterns of Mk X Power Armour. It took a long time but this is the best Power Armour to date!
