Warhammer 40K: Tyranids Need A Plastic Hierodule

The Hierodule would be a fantastic kit to get a Plastic Glow-up from Games Workshop. And the Tyranids need one.

If there was one kit from Tyranids I’d want from Forge World to be converted from resin to plastic it would be the Dimachaeron. But if there was a second kit I’d want a plastic version of it would be the Malanthrope. Then the Hierophant. Definitely as a third option. And then, right before the Harridan, I’d like a plastic Hierodule.

So why would a kit that I ranked 4th be the perfect resin kit to convert to plastic for Games Workshop? Because it’s the one that would sell really well.

Rise of the Hierodule

The Hierodule comes in two basic flavors: Scythed and Barbed. It’s also been showing up more on the tournament scene and it’s been pushing up Tyranids in the win column. It’s not as uncommon as it once was to see a list with this section in it:

That’s a LOT of beef. That’s also a lot of Forge World Resin. As a Tyranid Player, I’ve even picked up a Maleceptor from Forge world. The fact that I own a Maleceptor is not  the reason I think the Hierodule should get the plastic treatment. It should get the plastic treatment because it needs it the most.

First off, imagine this kit getting a plastic Glow-up. Think of how much better it would look and how much lighter it would be. GW’s sculptors could do some crazy poses with a big Tyranid monster like this. Secondly, it would be the perfect kit for them because it could be a 2-for-1 setup. Build it as either the Scythed or Barbed version. Bam! Two products, one box.

The Hierodule is essentially an even bigger brother to the iconic Carnifex. That’s another reason it would be a great option. It’s thematic and cool to see a swarm of Big Bugs with an even BIGGER bug in the middle. And the Hierodule is even bigger than Tyrannofex or Haruspex.

Depending on how you build it the Heirodule can do the same job as either — and arguably better, too. We might never get a plastic Tyranid Lord of War. But if we do, I think the a plastic Hierodule actually makes the most sense. Even it isn’t my first pick.

What do you think? Should the Hierodule get the plastic treatment? What kit would you pick from Forge World?
