D&D: Dragonlance Is Coming With a Book & a Board Game Later This Year
Wizards of the Coast unveiled our first glimpse of Dragonlance for 5th Edition at D&D Direct. Here’s what we know so far.
Rumors of Dragonlance started last year with the announcement of a new trilogy of novels from the original creators. Of course, not long after came news of a lawsuit. Which was settled, and soon we’ll see the first books. Then came the Heroes of Krynn Unearthed Arcana, which offered up a number of player options set in Dragonlance’s world of Krynn.
Now, at D&D Direct, WotC has officially unveiled their Dragonlance project. And it’s not just a single book. It’s a book and a battlegame. Let’s take a look.
Dragonlance Coming In 2022 – Adventure Book and Battle Game
In a beautifully illustrated trailer, we get a look at a Krynn besieged by conflict.
As you might expect, there are heroes, Kenders, and of course, Dragons.
But, that’s not all. We also get a look at some of the battles that play out. Here’s a quick shot of a sorcerer charging into the fray.
Can you spot the winged Draconian in the background? That’s a hallmark of Krynn. And, per the image leading this section, we know that we’re getting an adventure book: Shadow of the Dragon Queen, but we’re also getting a “battle game” Warriors of Krynn. This will presumably involve the massive armies pictured underneath the title.
Which makes sense. After all, D&D got its start as a war game. It seems fitting that they would eventually return to form. Especially with Krynn. The world was built for massive fantasy conflicts. And while one of the best ways to have a big boss fight in D&D is to have someone powerful riding on something very powerful, a bunch of tabletop skirmishes or wargames might be even better.
Happy Adventuring!
