Come take a gander inside the Marvel Multiverse RPG and its new d616 system with a new preview!

The Marvel Multiverse contains multitudes. You have your Wolverines, your Captains America and Marvel, your Spiders-Men. And depending on what universe you’re currently in, they might be fighting with or against each other at any given moment.

All that to say that the Marvel Multiverse is ripe for a roleplaying game. It’s ground that’s been tread before, but never quite like this. Earlier this week, Marvel Studios and designer Matt Forbeck previewed the upcoming RPG. Grab a sneak peek at the upcoming rules and strap in. The Marvel Multiverse RPG awaits!

Marvel Multiverse RPG Preview – Playtest Coming 4/20. Nice!

First of all, the release date, April 20th, is right around the corner. Which is nice because you don’t have to wait more than a week to get your hands on the game. But you probably want to know what the book portends for your tabletop. Here’s designer Matt Forbeck speaking with Marvel.com about the upcoming game:

From the start, we wanted to make the stories that you tell and the battles that you fight feel like they came straight from Marvel. To help make that happen, we came up with an entirely new system we call the d616 System. It allows us to work with characters ranging in power from Squirrel Girl all the way up to Captain Marvel and beyond.

One of the coolest bits of the game is the new dice mechanic. You roll three standard six-sided dice, one of which is the Marvel die. If you get a 1 on the Marvel die, you get a fantastic result and something amazing happens. If you get 6 on both of the other dice—or a 6-1-6 result—that’s an ultimate fantastic roll, which is even better.

Combine that with our rules for edges and troubles—which offer dice re-rolls—and you wind up with a lot of ways to make incredible things happen during the game, maximizing the fun.

In the game, every character has six ability scores: Might Agility Resilience Vigilance Ego and Logic. Which is about as comic book-y as it gets. You also get a list of character powers as well. As you can see above, Spider-Man has a lot of powers. Here’s how they look strung together:

Already this looks exciting.
