Moon Knight Episode 3 starts to reveal the true nature of people… and gods.
At the end of Episode 2 (read the recap here) Marc arrives in Cairo after losing the scarab that Harrow believes will show him Amitt’s tomb. Moon Knight episode 3 jumps right in with a faked passport and a knife fight. Both alts show their worth and use their talents and knowledge to take on Harrow and his cult.

Moon Knight Episode 3 – Let’s Get it Started
The episode opens with some background on Layla El-Faouly – she’s not new to this game. She trades in antiquities on the black market, recovering artifacts and keeping them out of the wrong hands. Layla may operate on the not-so-legal side of things, but her cause is noble. We also learn that while Marc is not a Cairo local, Layla most certainly is.
While Layla is making her way home, Marc is hunting down Harrow in Cairo. Our next jump is into a rooftop knife fight with Marc and a bunch of cultists. The scene bounces between Marc and Steven… and another alt that neither of them knows. It seems that the hyper-violent episodes Steven has woken up from are not caused by Marc.
When Marc gets nothing out of the cult members he’s chasing, Khonshu decides to call a meeting of the Great Ennead.
The Great Pyramid of Giza
Great Ennead was a group of nine deities in Egyptian mythology worshipped at Heliopolis. In this story, they meet using avatars in the Pyramid of Giza and the gods are a little different. Hathor, Horus, Isis, Tefnut, Osiris, and Khonshu meet to decide Harrow’s fate. We learn in this meeting that the gods are much like the Eternals – they don’t interfere with humanity.
During this judgment, Harrow appears and defends himself by deflecting to Marc’s DID. He tells the gods that Marc doesn’t know what’s going on because he doesn’t know himself. It becomes a trial of Khonshu and Marc rather than one of Harrow’s intentions. The tactic works and Osiris announces that Harrow has done nothing.
On their way out, Hathor’s avatar gives Marc a tip: “Find Senfu’s sarcophagus, and you’ll find your tomb.”
Fight Over a Sarcophagus
Layla uses her connections to locate Senfu’s sarcophagus, which has been sold on the black market to Anton Mogart. The art dealer met Layla in Madripoor (we’ve danced there before). The meeting starts off alright but quickly goes south when Marc and Steven argue in front of Mogart. Then Harrow shows up with some of his minions. The avatar of Ammit shows his power by destroying the sarcophagus and kicking off a fight.
There are guns, horses, spears, and a bulletproof cape. Arguments over who is in control bring Mr. Knight into the fight, which is delightful until he gets stabbed with a spear. The two are slowly figuring out how to work with one another, or at least how to survive.
During Harrow and Marc’s interactions this episode, Harrow makes it clear he knows all about Marc. His DID, his relationship with Khonshu, and things he’s done that he’s ashamed of. The two are connected in ways that haven’t been shown yet. The origin of the current Fist of Khonshu is going to be the key to all of this.
Tick-Tock
With pieces of the map in hand – and somehow not destroyed by Harrow’s antics – Layla and Marc head to the desert to figure out what it means. This is when Khonshu and Marc admit they need Steven. The amateur Egyptologist is able to put the pieces together, but it’s not enough. Khonshu must pull another trick from his sleeve and turn back time.
Khonshu is imprisoned in stone and Marc and Steven are left without the ability to summon the suit. But they have the location of Ammit’s temple and an ally.
The episode closes with Harrow speaking to the stone Khonshu – telling the trapped god that he owes his victory to him because the god’s torment created him. Harrow’s plan to release Ammit on the world is very personal.
Moon Knight Episode 3 – Quick Thoughts
Marc’s origin is going to get teased out until the end, I think. There will be a reckoning for Arthur Harrow, Marc, Layla, and Khonshu.
Marc and Steven finding value in one another is going to be important from here out. Without the protection of Khonshu, the alts are going to have to rely on each other and Layla to survive. While that internal teamwork is good, the writers are on a precarious tightrope. I’d hate to see this become another ‘having a mental disorder is a super power’ story.
- The counterfeiter Layla works with is named Lagaro
- Jake Lockley, is that you?
- Is Frenchie actually showing up?
- This show keeps trying to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier
