Murder, Mayhem, & Mystery Abound in ‘Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong’ Pre-Order Trailer
Vampire: the Masquerade – Swansong promises everything that a good World of Darkness should deliver. Check the pre-order trailer today.
Are you wondering what goes into a good World of Darkness game? If my nights in the Masquerade are anything to go by, it’s a moody atmosphere, weird-colored eyes, murder, sexy vampires, and assault weapons outta left field. All of which make an appearance in Vampire: the Masquerade – Swansong’s pre-order trailer. There’s also a song that sounds like it’s straight out of the leather and lace 90s.
And nostalgia for that bygone era when all you had to worry about was what you would do when your fishnet sleeves tore on the way to see Bauhaus is what White Wolf built an empire on. So it’s fitting. We’re in the 90s: Part Deux right now. And while yes, you have to put up with the occasional Seinfeld shirt unironically on sale at Old Navy, you also get games like this one.
Vampire‘s Swansong Brings The Night To Life
Swansong is shaping up to be what the World of Darkness needs. It’s a game that embraces Vampire: the Masquerade. We’ve seen the gameplay shake out in multiple trailers so far. It looks like an interesting blend of adventure game 3-D RPG. You aren’t playing with true turn-based gameplay like you would at the table – but it’s capturing the essence of the game. You’re entering a moody story full of mystery.
Someone has been murdered and it threatens the Masquerade. The central tenets of the RPG are on full display. And so are the abilities of each vampire. You get to pick a host of powers and skills depending on your style. You might make your Ventrue a master of manipulation and domination. Or you might brute force your way past everything. And while the game is all about giving you choices, the powers you have help determine what choices you get in the first place.
With three different vampires to control, the game looks like it should offer a ton of variety to players. If you want to sink your teeth into the moody world of Vampire: the Masquerade, this game looks poised to deliver what few other WoD games have.
