It seems impossible, but the Nazralath announcement trailer shows off some of the twisted and surreal landscapes of this world.

Euclidean Studios released the announcement trailer for their upcoming game, Nazralath: The Fallen World, and it’s hard to explain. Just watch.

The trailer shows us very little, at least in terms of gameplay. However, the video description, as well as their website, describe the game as such:

Nazralath: The Fallen World is a story-rich, third-person, dark fantasy action-adventure game with RPG elements; focusing on a compelling branching narrative and exploration through a rich, strong sense of atmosphere and world.

Inspired by titles such as Planescape: Torment and Dark Souls, as well as the twisted works of Zdzisław Beksiński and H.P. Lovecraft, the game is our love letter to the occult realms of dark fantasy.

While watching through the Nazralath announcement trailer, the visuals are obviously something to behold. It’s hard to find which scene best captures what could be the overall tone of the game. There are obvious tonal inspirations from Dark Souls and Eldin Ring. But, the monumental structures feel so much more H.P. Lovecraft, which they also call out.

The designers also call out the works of Zdzisław Beksiński as a source of visual inspiration. He’s a polish artist known for his work in “the field of dystopian surrealism”. In case you’re unaware of his works, you might spot some visual similarities within the trailer.

Overall, we don’t get a lot of info about the gameplay from the Nazralath announcement trailer. But we can glean a few details from the snippets we have.

Nazralath is the child of all of our skills, knowledge and inspirations. It’s an experience woven from the mechanics of our favorite games growing up, the texts of our favorite authors’ thematic and narrative styles, and the brush strokes of our favorite painters and digital artists.

We consider it a unique and fresh take on the RPG genre, and a reincarnation of classic game design values which seem to have been lost to time.

If this description from Euclidean Studios is to believed, Nazralath could be a more streamlined version of the likes of Elden Ring. The phrase return of “classic game design values” really stands out as a message they are trying to get across without really saying anything.

But, if this means a return to a format of RPG that is more focused on narrative story telling, character development, and world building, then count me in!
