‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ First 15 Minutes Shown at CinemaCon
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse first 15 minutes contain a multiverse fight with fantastic animation.
Fans were disappointed when the movie’s release date was moved back to next year. After the presentation at CinemaCon that producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller did, it makes sense. This movie is bigger than anyone expected. Much bigger.
The producers shared that over 1,000 animators are working on the movie – that’s a record. Those animators are working on 240 characters (the first movie had 40) across six spider-verses (so far). It’s a lot to get done and I’m glad the date was moved.
After they went over the numbers, they shared a fifteen minute rough cut. Based on the attendees’ reaction, the next chapter of Miles’ story uses the same amazing animation from the first movie. While the visuals weren’t done, the story of the opening scene was clear. Phil Lord and Chris Miller told EW last year.
“Miles’ story is an epic. We wrote what we thought the story needed to be, and to our surprise we realized it was two movies instead of one.”

You can read a more detailed account from someone that was there on io9. This is the quick and dirty paraphrase…
Across the Spider-Verse opens on Earth-65, which is where Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) is from. Gwen’s dad is a cop in this universe, like Miles’ dad. He’s called in to handle the Vulture in a hostage situation. Gwen decides to follow in order to assist. While in the midst of the fight Vulture pins her down. Out of nowhere webs pull his arms back and saves her. It’s Miguel O’Hara from Earth-928. Jessica Drew of Earth-404 drops in and the three of them take out Vulture and save the hostages.
During this whole thing, Miguel lets Gwen know that he’s not happy. The crew of Spider-People didn’t fix the multiverse when they destroyed Kingpin’s collider – they created a bigger hole. More people are crossing over. Miguel gives her a wristband that allows her to travel through the multi-verse (which we can see in the trailer).
This is going to be bonkers and I am very excited for next summer.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse debuts June 2, 2023.
