The Blade Runner RPG promises a world of neon and rain. And now, Free League publishing has revealed its upcoming Kickstarter date, May 3rd. Alongside that, they’ve shown off a look inside. Come take a look inside the covers of the new Blade Runner RPG.
Blade Runner RPG Preview
Revealed back in September, the BLADE RUNNER RPG propels players into the neon noir streets of Los Angeles as Blade Runners. Set in the year 2037, the adventures begin shortly after the Wallace Corporation debuts the new Nexus-9 Replicants on Earth, giving players the choice to play as either human or Replicant Blade Runners with different specialties, personalities, and memories.
Apart from the core casework, the RPG will both in setting and mechanics also showcase key themes of Blade Runner – sci-fi action, corporate intrigue, existential character drama, and moral conflict – that encourage roleplay and challenge players to question your orders, empathize with your enemies, and make hard calls with high stakes and long-lasting implications.
What does this all mean? Well, we can get a look at the system they use in the case of the Inspector.
Here’s our first look at a character. And you can see the Year Zero Engine on display here. This is the same system at the heart of Free League’s other big game: Tales from the Loop. It’s a character-driven engine, where in order to help clear some of the mechanical complications, you have to engage in a little light roleplaying. In Tales from the Loop, it’s downtime from being a kid. Who knows what it will be in the Blade Runner RPG. But in this sneak preview of the Blade Runner RPG we get a little bit of the good stuff – the flavor. This text is dripping with neon noir.
