Games Workshop is winding up the Nerf Bat and the Harlequins are about to get bashed. No tears for the clowns of 40k.

In the latest Metawatch article from Warhammer Community they highlighted the dominance of the Harlequins in the new Aeldari Codex. If you didn’t know or haven’t been following the memes you might have missed that Harlequins did extremely well at AdeptiCon. To use GW’s words “The tricksy jesters managed an unusually high win rate at their first tournament since the release of the new Codex: Aeldari.

Yeah…that’s one way to put it. If you were at the tournament you probably noticed that top tables started to look a little similar. And it wasn’t just because the armies were from the same book…The mirror matches were real.

“Oh no, don’t SHARE the list! What are you doing?! Now everyone will be hopped up on pancake makeup and sequined jumpsuits! The clowns are coming!!!” — whoa, whoa, whoa Dear Reader, relax. Change is coming.

Harlequin Nerfs Incoming

Games Workshop’s team was at the scene and they were paying attention.

“So, what’s next for our favourite pantomime killers? Rest assured that the Warhammer Studio is aware that this particular comedy is at present slightly too divine. Several senior members of the Warhammer 40,000 team were at AdeptiCon to watch things unfold, and the next Balance Dataslate is coming with appropriate fixes next week.

You can therefore expect imminent tweaks and changes to the Harlequins in particular – they’ll remain an awesome faction, but other factions will find them more fun to play against, and Aeldari players will see them support a wider variety of army lists in competitive settings.”

So there you have it. GW is already cooking up some big change to the Harlequins. They made quite a splash and, considering they didn’t even have their own codex, certainly made an impression. They made such an impact that GW is going to “impacting” of their own. We’re VERY curious to see what the look like in a week or two. Maybe don’t sign-up to ride that clown car just yet.

Good for the Harlequins to score a win…But maybe next time they should be so flashy about it. Ah who are we kidding. They are Harlequins — they can’t NOT be flashy!
