Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – New Plastic Spartan Assault Tank Kit Coming Soon
Games Workshop has announced a new plastic Spartan Assault Tank Kit is coming to tabletops for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy.
Well this is an unexpected treat. We all knew that Games Workshop was planning a big revamp of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy with a rules update and some new kits. The Plastic Beakie Marines were just the start. Now we have confirmation that the popular Spartan Assault Tank is getting a new kit.
“Also known as the Land Raider Spartan, this armoured carrier was designed to punch through the most overwhelming enemy defences and deliver a knock-out blow of massed Astartes infantry. It became a common assault vehicle during the Great Crusade, where its nigh-impervious chassis could shrug off regular anti-tank weapons as it ferried up to 26 Legionaries – or 13 Terminators – into the fray, with a surprising turn of speed for its size.”
Uh…Wow! This is kind of a shocker. The Spartan Assault Tank is a great choice for a plastic kit as it was a kit available from Forge World for a really long time. However, that no longer seems to be the case. Which makes sense — it’s getting converted to plastic!
Ths Spartan Assault Tank features some really cool and distinct options vs the more common Land Raider. For starters it’s got two sets of Quad Lascannons for 8 total. That’s no small amount of Firepower. It also has hull-mounted heavy bolters in case all those Lascannons weren’t enough. Alternatively, you can swap out those heavy bolters for two more lascannons or even heavy flamers. The gunners hatch also has space for pintle-mounted weapons, too.
Basically, if you ever looked at a Land Raider and said “this could use more armour and guns” then this is for you.
For all you hobbyist and artists out there it’s important to note that the hull of the Spartan is quite flat. It’s perfect for going nuts with the free-hand. Or decals. It’s a great way to really make this tank fit your legion. The Horus Heresy revamp is really shaping up!
