Chris Hemsworth is a Mad Scientist in ‘Spiderhead’
The inmates at Spiderhead Penitentery have signed up for a punishment they didn’t expect in this Netflix movie.
This Netflix original is based on The New Yorker short story, Escape From Spiderhead by George Saunders. In the near future, a group of inmates in a high-tech prison has agreed to be part of a series of drug trials. Injecting people with random substances that alter their emotions? What could go wrong?
The premise presents a mix of sci-fi questions we’ve already seen over the decades. Is it moral to use prisonsers for scientific testing? Should we be messing with human brains like this? What happens if a person becomes god to a group of isolated people? Thought-provoking, innovative, and novel answers are still possible. Let’s hope that’s what they come up with – as Netflix original movies run the gamut from Oscar award winners to absolute dreck.
