The Imperial Fists are under the Horus Heresy spotlight with these rules. Come see what makes these defenders of Terra so good at their job.

The Horus Heresy Era is ramping up with a new Starter Box packed full of awesome miniatures. It’s a good place to start for a new army and the first major decision you’ll have is which Legion to play. Today, we’re getting a closer look at the Imperial Fists and some of their special rules. These aren’t all of them but it’s a good cross section to give us all a better understanding of how they work.

On the battlefield, the Imperial Fists are all about standing immovable, refusing to bend to the enemy’s will, constructing the ultimate defence, and – psych! – now they’re in your face, smashing you with hammers and swords. A rolling stone gathers no moss, but it can still break your nose.

The Imperial Fists kick things off with a custom rule called “The Best Defence” and it turns out this is actually a *tad* more offensive in nature. How so? Well, it turns out this is essentially a Reactive counter-charge ability. When an enemy unit finishes it’s move within 10″ and in Line of Sight of an Imperial Fist unit, that Imperial Fist unit can attempt a charge. This can only happen once per game but talk about one heck of a surprise!

Not only is this an out of activation charge, but the Imperial Fists also get all their charge bonuses when they fight in the Assault phase as normal. So yeah…this is basically sticking to the old adage that “The best defense is a strong offense.” Their offensive prowess doesn’t end there, either.

One of the most powerful tools in the arsenal of the Space Marine Legions is the humble Bolter. Mass Bolter fire is already deadly enough but this rule allows it to be accurate mass Bolter fire. This also applies to any Auto weapons, too! What can we say? The Imperial Fists like their ballistic weaponry.

Another rule the Imperial Fists are bringing to the table are their own Rites of War. We’re getting a look at a specific one called Templar Assault. This allows them to pack quite a punch.

Yeah, when these units pop of of their transports they are plenty ticked off! I wonder if maybe they are claustrophobic and instead of knowing fear they just get angry. Can’t keep those emotions bottled up like that — they tend to explode in really bad ways. In this case, I feel a little bad for who’s ever on the receiving end of that assault.
