Horus Heresy: Space Wolf Legion Rules Preview
Do you want to play as the Space Wolves during the Horus Heresy? Check out their Legion rules first!
Games Workshop has done a lot of work making the various Space Marine Legions of the Horus Heresy play differently. Today, we’re getting yet another example of how they are different thank to the Space Wolf Legion rules. Let’s see how the Sons of Russ will perform on the tabletop.
“The Space Wolves are tireless predators who specialise in furious infantry shock assaults, exploiting their speed and ferocity to overwhelm enemy formations with close-range firefights – and then move in for the kill. Frankly, if you can’t kill it with a boltgun and blade, is it even worth fighting?”
Space Wolf Legion Rules
The Bestial Savagery rules allows for your Infantry units to get a boost in a few different ways. First up, your standard Infantry units can now Run, Shoot, and Charge in the same turn. Although, if they do shoot, their shots are counted as Snap Shots. For units that can’t run (like Legion Cataphrachtii Terminators) they gain +1 WS instead when they charge. Vehicles get +1 to strength for Ram Attacks as well.
Crown Breaker is a special Warlord trait your Space Wolves have access to. This one does a couple of things. First up, the Warlord an all models in any unit he has joined get Preferred Enemy (Independent Characters) rule. This benefit should help out when trying to pick off the enemy’s characters. Additionally, they also get a 5+ Feel No Pain rule when in combat with an enemy Independent Character.
The army may also make an additional Reaction in the opposing player’s Movement phase, too! It must be those hyper reflexes kicking in…or the Warlord’s strong pack leadership. This bonus only applies while the Warlord is still alive however.
The Sons of Fenris also get their own Psychic Power called Stormwrought. We’re not going to get into the ramification of the Space Wolves using Pskyers here…nope. Not going there. But we are going to point out that this power grants Shrouded (5+) to a target unit within 6″ of the Psyker. Also, the controlling player can opt to make a Psychic Check. If it’s passed, the Shrouded goes to a (3+) instead. If it’s failed, the target unit still gets the (5+) but the Psyker has to suffer a Perils of the Warp.
The Emperor’s Executions are on the prowl. Will you be joining them on the hunt during the Horus Heresy?
