Not So Super Anymore: ‘Metroid Dread’ is the Best-Selling Game in the Series
By Nintendo’s own financial report, Metroid Dread has taken the top spot and is now the best selling game in the Metroid franchise.
Nintendo has released their fiscal year financial report, and it’s mostly nothing too exciting. Except that sales are down, but costs were down too, so something something business. But that’s not why we are here today.
According to the report, Metroid Dread has sold 2.9 million units globally, making it the best selling game in the series. Which, admittedly pales in comparison to the 45.3 million that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold. But I’ll take what I can get with one of my favorite series.
This data, when compared to a data analysis derived from Nintendo’s own reports puts Dread about 60,000 units past Prime, and about 1.5 million ahead of Super.
- Metroid Prime (GC) – 2.84 M
- Metroid (NES) – 2.73 M
- Metroid II (GB) – 1.72 M
- Metroid Fusion (GBA) – 1.60 M
- Super Metroid (SNES) – 1.42 M
But now Metroid Dread is the best selling game in the series. So, it’s a fair assumption the upcoming Metroid Prime 4 will put up some big numbers as well. It’s slated to release at the end of the year, but is is currently available for pre-order.
Also, it’s no big deal, but now that Metroid Dread is the best selling game in the series, and everyone was kinda hating on it when it came out. I just wanna say that I totally called it.
