RPG: Paizo Gets a New President
According to a new announcement from Paizo, Jim Butler, former VP of Marketing and Licensing is the company’s new president.
Changes are in store in Paizo as a new president steps up. The previous president, Jeff Alvarez, recently stepped down for health reasons, per a statement from Paizo. But in the wake of his departure, Paizo has named its VP or Marketing and Licensing, Jim Butler, as the new president.
Butler, whose tenure in the games industry begins decades ago with TSR, Wizards of the Coast, and others, promises to bring new excitement to Pathfinder and Starfinder.
Paizo’s New President
Paizo’s new president comes highly regarded. CEO Lisa Stevens recalls forking closely with Butler during the days of 3rd Edition D&D at early WotC.
“Jim is a hardworking visionary whose almost three decades of game experience makes him the perfect person to guide Paizo into its third decade.”
As far as Butler himself, he expressed gratitude towards the team:
“I’m grateful for the trust that Lisa and the Leadership Team have placed in me to lead Paizo. I look forward to working with my fellow employees to lead the company into the next era of tabletop excellence. I started my gaming career as an editor and game designer, switching over to marketing and brand management when Peter Adkison wanted ‘gamers with business degrees’ running Dungeons & Dragons. It’s been an epic adventure so far, and I’m excited that a new chapter has begun.”
Butler has worked at a variety of companies, before Paizo, including TSR, Wizards of the Coast, Warner Bros./Turbine, and Trion Worlds.
Jim lives in Redmond, WA with his husband, Matthew, and their fur-kids: Toker, Stella, and Skylar. He’s currently playing through volume 5 of the Pathfinder Return of the Runelords Adventure Path as a kobold druid and GMing the Extinction Curse Adventure Path for Pathfinder Second Edition.
What else is in store for Pathfinder as 2nd Edition ramps up its releases? We’ll find out soon enough.
Happy Adventuring!
