‘Three Thousand Years of Longing’ – ‘Mad Max’ Director & Idris Elba Take Us on a Trip
Three Thousand Years of Longing is Mad Max creator George Miller’s magnum opus – the first look is here, and it’s fantastic.
George Miller has been directing for over forty years. He’s the creative brain behind the Mad Max franchise, The Witches of Eastwick, and the best Twilight Zone segments to hit the big screen.
Three Thousand Years of Longing has been on his mind for decades. It is based on a story in The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye – a collection of mythical short stories by British novelist A. S. Byatt. The desire to bring it to screen has been with Miller since the mid-1990s, but it didn’t feel like the right time until recently. He told Deadline…
“It was there on and off, and we’d go back to it when it felt right. It’s not that typical thing where you engage a writer, and there’s a first draft and a second and so on. I think that was ultimately to the advantage of the film. The film would be made when it was ready. It wasn’t something that we had to make by a certain time.”
This year is that time. He’s found the right cast (led by these two) and crew, and tech has caught up to his vision.
Three Thousand Years of Longing Trailers
Based on the first pair of trailers, it’s worth the wait. This isn’t going to be your typical historical epic. This is a George Miller historical epic.
