The Adeptus Custodes are getting a new Combat Patrol box. Let’s check out the contents and see what sort of deal we’re getting!

There’s a new Combat Patrol Box coming to pre-order this weekend featuring the Talons of the Emperor. Plus we know the price of the box because it’s a Combat Patrol. Those clock in at $150. So what’s the value we’re getting from this new Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol? Let’s take a closer look and find out.

Combat Patrol: Adeptus Custodes

Vertus Praetors $60

Custodian Guard Squad $60

2x Witchseeker Squad $55 = $110

Individual MSRP total: $230

Total Savings: $80

At the end of the day this is a savings of $80. Now, the question becomes is that savings actually worth it for this boxed set? For that we’re going to use our “Peat, Repeat, or No-peat” rating systems. And once again we’ll be talking to both Veteran players of this army and completely new players for this same army.

Rating The Adeptus Custodes Combat Patrol

For our Veteran players, this one’s probably a No-peat for you. Why? Well, even though you’re saving $80 bucks for this set, you probably don’t need any of those units at this point. You probably already have all the Dawneagle Jetbikes you’ll ever need. 5 More Custodians isn’t really that exciting. And to top it off 10 Sisters of Silence is also a unit you probably have the models for but just can’t find a good use for in your lists already. The only reason TO pick this one up is in the rare case you’re looking to all of these units in your lists already.

If you’re brand new and looking to jumpstart a Custodes army then I’d rate this one a Peat. You’ll probably want to pick up a copy of this box — but just one. Why not more? Well, while you’ll probably find a use for more Jetbikes and 5 more Custodians, those 10 more Sisters of Silence are a tougher sell. If you did buy two boxes you’ll end up with:

  • 6x Dawneagle Jetbikes.  1 of which you can turn in a Shield-Captain…or a pair of them
  • 10x Custodes which are the beating heart of your army.
  • 20x Sisters of Silence which could be interesting if you’re looking for a really off-meta build…but good luck with that!

Unfortunately, yes, the Sisters of Silence are kind of the hiccup in this box. You could kind of justify buying two because you ARE savings a total of $160…but you’re also getting less useful units. That’s just not a call I’d like to recommend very strongly.

Things changed since January when this box was announced. Because of the price hikes the Custodes this box is going to save you money. Even at $150, the two units you care about are still $60 each. So, if you wanted to think about it this way, you are still “only paying $30 more for $110 in models.” But even with that logic I’m having a hard time convincing myself that this Combat Patrol is a good buy in the current meta.

Maybe if it was a Dreadnought. Or Allarus Custodians…
