Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang’s nostalgic time-travel comic is coming to Amazon Prime Video – make way for the Paper Girls show.

It feels like we’ve heard little if anything about a live-action adaptation of the comic book Paper Girls. It’s a story about the young girls who took over paper routes as newspapers were dying out in the late 80s. It’s the kids-on-bikes coming-of-age formula we know and love. But one thing makes it a little different (I mean besides the fact that it’s about girls.) These girls discover a time machine. And in so doing, they stumble into a space-time war – and also their future selves.

This week, the creators of the comic books Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang gave Entertainment Weekly an exclusive look at a brand new series coming to Amazon next month. Polish up your bicycle handles: the live-action adaptation of Paper Girls is just around the corner.

Paper Girls: Cast & Quotes

The series focuses on the four main teen girls. Mac will be played by Sofia Rosinsky, alongside Camryn Jones as Tiffany, and Fina Strazza as K.J. Riley Lai Nelet will play a young Erin Tieng. Like the first volume of the book, casting tells us that we’ll also meet an adult Erin Tieng – played by Ali Wong. Wong is usually known for her stand-up comedy, and it will be really exciting to see her in a different role.

Vaughn and Chiang are executive producers of the show. In the article, they discuss a lot of what they love about the characters and the story. They also shared some insight into what we can all expect from the upcoming show.

“This show really takes such advantage of the medium. If you’ve never heard of Paper Girls, if you’re not familiar with this comic, then the show is still 100 percent accessible and I think you will love it. But if you’re a hardcore fan of the comic, it’s still going to be extremely surprising to you. With our blessing, they go to some places that we never could as a comic and there are new characters, there are new threats.” – Brian K. Vaughn
