Makers Of ‘Pathfinder: Kingmaker’ Set Their Sights On Warhammer 40K In ‘Rogue Trader’
The grim darkness of the distant future will soon have a cRPG all its own. Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader, coming soon from Owlcat Games.
Warhammer 40K has taken many forms in many games. First person shooters. Third person shooters. Flight sims. Racing games. Real time strategy. Turn-based strategy. 4X, XCom, and an action RPG that holds up surprisingly well for being not-Diablo.
But never has Warhammer 40K dipped into the realm of the cRPG. These party-based games are typically the realm of fantasy. But 40K and fantasy aren’t too far off from each other. Which is why it comes as delightful news that the makers of Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Owlcat Games, will be taking on Warhammer 40K.
And moreover, that it’s coming surprisingly soon.
Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader Game
In Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader you will take on the role of an eponymous trader. You’ll have an Imperial mandate to head out into the stars, better known as a Warrant of Trade:
Thanks to their Warrant of Trade — the Rogue Trader is endowed with privileges and power beyond imagination as well as the task of expanding the borders of the Imperium. At their disposal is a gargantuan voidship of immense strength and innumerable personnel ready to follow any undertakings of the leader. Show your subjects mercy or disdain, stay faithful to the Emperor or consort with enemies of Mankind — every decision and every act of the Rogue Trader sends ripples throughout entire star systems, changing the in-game world and those who inhabit it.
The game is set in the Koronus Expanse, near the Northwestern fringe of the Imperium. As you might expect, there you’ll find a variety of characters to join your crew. We know so far you can include characters such as “a mighty Space Marine, a mercurial Aeldari Ranger, or even a courageous Sister of Battle armed with bolder and ardent prayers.”
You’ll fight the various enemies that the Imperium is at war with. And through it all, you’ll have the chance to make your fortune. If Owlcat’s previous Pathfinder games are anything to go by, you can expect a lot of customization and variety in the story. Wrath of the Righteous takes a humble tale and makes it truly epic. With good endings, evil endings, weird cosmic endings, and a variety of systems that come together to tell a heroic saga.
We can’t wait to see what they get up to in the grim darkness of the distant future.
