Meet Spider-Man’s New ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ Foe
Across the Spider-Verse is bringing in a ton of new characters and Sony just shared a peek at the newest bad guy – The Spot.
Fans were disappointed when the movie’s release date was moved back to next year. But, this movie is bigger than anyone expected. Much bigger. Over 1,000 animators are working on the movie – that’s a record. Those animators are working on 240 characters (the first movie had 40) across six spider-verses (so far). It’s a lot to get done and I’m glad the date was moved.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller told EW last year, “Miles’ story is an epic. We wrote what we thought the story needed to be, and to our surprise, we realized it was two movies instead of one.”
Spider-Man’s New Foe – The Spot
We got a look at the first fifteen minutes (kind of) of the movie and now we have a look at at least one of its baddies. He’s been around since the mid-1980s and this will be his first time on the big screen.

A lot of folks are asking them who the heck The Spot is right now. Jonathan Ohnn was an MIT educated scientist who worked for Kingpin. He was asked to recreate the powers of the vigilante Cloak. He was able to do and created a portal, as well as a massive blackout. The portal destabilized. In an attempt to save what he’d found, Ohnn stepped into it and ended up in a light and dark dimension filled with portals.
He escaped the dimension, but he was changed. The dimension adhered to his skin, tuning him stark white and covering him with black spots that act as portable space warps. So he can do stuff like this and it doesn’t trigger spider-senses because he’s attacking from another dimension.
The Spot is a wonderful pick for animation – there’s so much weirdness that he can do that will only work in this format. This is going to be bonkers and I am very excited for next summer.
