Necromunda: The Cargo-8 Ridgehauler Is One Big Rig

The Cargo-8 Ridgehauler and accompanying trailer is a new addition to Necromunda and the Grimdark Universe of Warhammer 40,000. I’m betting we’re going to see even more uses for this bad boy on the tabletop. But just how big is this big rig? See for yourself:
Cargo-8 Ridgehauler Unboxed
Let’s just get this out of the way — I like this kit. It was easy enough to build and it looks great at the same time. I really can’t wait to get this thing on the tabletop and play around with it because as soon as one plops down the narrative starts to write itself. The Cargo-8 Ridgehauler is one of those kits that just gets your imagination going. Like most other big centerpiece kits it’s an eye catcher. It wants to dictate the story and the action — and that’s fine with me!
Having built one I was a little surprised at just how big it ended up being. Seeing the cargo container on the back in a picture is one thing, but then seeing it physically built is another. It’s really cool! Those wheels are large and there’s an option to either build the Ridgehauler (and the trailer) with either 8 or 6. I opted for the 4 sets of 2 look for both.
The Sprues
Building this kit is pretty easy — other than all the clipping and cleaning that can be tedious as with all builds. There’s a lot of bits but, realistically, there’s a lot of repeating bits to use. In fact, I built the cargo trailer and the Ridgehauler at the same time because they shared so many bits. You can really assembly line this sucker if you’ve got more than one trailer to build.
The big difference between the trailer and the Ridgehauler is really the cabin sprue. This additional sprue as all the bits to create the Rig’s cabin like the doors, extra chassis, steering wheel. Plus the extra crew which work this big rig.
The last big sprue is the cargo containers. We’ve seen this one before from the Munitorum boxed set so it’s not a huge surprise.
There’s also one final sprue which is the Gunner/additional crew sprue. This is also available as a separate piece from GW as well.
Again, the difference between the full Cargo-8 Ridgehauler and the trailer is really the cabin sprue and gunner sprue. Given the fact that you can link up to 4 trailers behind one Ridgehauler, you’ve got a LOT of repeating parts to build. Thankfully, once you get stuff clipped and cleaned up it should all go together relatively easily.
I really liked this kit and think there is a lot of conversion potential here. From basica head-swaps for the crew for your gang to full on body swaps or even complete kit overhauls, the Ridgehauler is a conversion and hobby dream. I can’t wait to see your creations when this arrives to the players at large!
Cargo-8 Ridgehauler $95
The Guild of Coin rules the roads of Necromunda. They transport material between hives and, for a hefty price, they’ll even smuggle weapons and people. Crossing the arid, violent, and irradiated ash wastes is a risky business, so the guild employs convoys of Cargo-8 Ridgehaulers. These hulking vehicles are perfect for traversing the dunes thanks to their massive wheels and sturdy engines, hauling trailers of armoured containers and transport carriages across the Great Equatorial Wastes, but their true appeal comes from their modularity – it takes little effort to outfit one with enough guns to make it a mobile fortress, ready to repel gang ambushes and raids.
