Games Workshop has produced a size comparison and reference for the Leagues of Votann Hearthkyn. Come see how they stack-up in size.

The Leagues of Votann are the reimagining of the Squats. These space miners are both familiar and mysterious at the same time. We recognize them and yet we don’t understand them fully. Today, Games Workshop has continued to build that bridge towards understanding them. We’ve gotten a bit more lore on them, a hard data point, and a size comparison to a Primaris Space Marine.

Until now, the closest thing we’ve had to compare the Leagues of Votann to have been the Ironhead Squat Prospectors. However, even those aren’t quite accurate because they aren’t technically the same faction.

It’s also worth mentioning that those Ironheads are on *new* 28.5mm Round Bases. That could be a clue for the Leagues of Votann Base size.

Leagues of Votann Size Comparison

via Warhammer Community

“The first thing you might notice is that they look a little squat compared to many other races in the galaxy. Measuring up at around 4ft (1.4m) on average, Kin are miniscule compared to the warriors of the Adeptus Astartes, but they can pack almost as much of a punch.”

Here we have that size comparison as well as that “hard data point.” We know that the Kin are roughly 1.4m (or 4 ft) tall. Space Marines were around 2.2m (or around 7ft to 8 ft) tall on average in the lore. And the Primaris Space Marines are taller than them. We also know that Primarchs were closer to 9ft or 10ft tall as well.

While that can vary by chapter the point is that the Kin of the Leagues of Votann are roughly half the height of a Space Marine when both are in their full battle regalia. And speaking of armor…

League Armor And Wargear

The Leagues of Votann are basically running around with STCs but their technology isn’t stagnate. They have engineers that can build and design equipment and armor. These Brôkhyrs use their personal A.N-vyl terminals to forge some pretty impressive sounding stuff. Like the Void Armour of the Hearthkyn:

“Void armour comprises hardened, jointed segments which are hooked into the void suit beneath. It is fashioned from magnaferrite weave, and often reinforced with adamantine and enhanced with microfield generators – providing the ultimate protection for these doughty warriors.”

That explains why they have a solid 4+ save on their basic troopers. I also have a feeling we’re going to be seeing with some potent ways to modify that as well.

Lore of the Leagues

One final note about the Lore of the Leagues of Votann. Every army has a “catch phase” so to speak and the Leagues of Votann are no different. Plus, the way GW talks about this one, I think it could even end up as a special rule for the army:

Culture in general is incredibly important to the Leagues, and much like the requirement for Imperial Knight pilots to honour their ancestors, Kin are also acutely aware that the Ancestors are Always Watching, a phrase which is used as a blessing, battlecry, and warning interchangeably.

The Ancestors are Always Watching…it has a nice ring to it.
