Balance Dataslate Massive Changes Ahead
So what’s so massive and game changings in the Balance Dataslate? Games Workshop is certainly taking the top performing armies down a peg or two and also attempting to bring up the floor a bit, too. We’re not going to hit all these changes but we’re going to highlight some of the big ones. Let’s start at the top and work our way down.
Aeldari can no longer combine Hail of Doom Far-flung Craftworld Attribute with another option from the list. GW also tweaked Matchless Agility and Fire and Fade. And since we’re talking about Aeldari, the Harlequins also got a change for their Luck re-rolls. They will now have to pass a Luck of the Laughing God roll to have those around.
The Tyranids also got hit with the nerf bat. Turns out being hyper adaptable was maybe a little too good.
“Tyranids must now pick their Hive Fleet Adaptation when building their army list like all other factions, rather than being able to swap out the Adaptive element at the start of each battle.”
There’s also a huge change for their Synaptic Imperatives as they only work while your Warlord remains on the board. Time to bust out those bodyguards.
Necrons got a pretty huge boost as more units have been given the CORE keyword. Now, every single Necron Vehicle is CORE as well as Canoptek Spyders. Command Protocols no longer require a Noble to work — any friendly character will do.
Astra Militarum vehicles now get the Armour of Contempt rule and Leman Russ tanks are still rocking the improved save, too.
Orks got another boost for their Speed Freeks units as those are now allowed to have 3 per unit. And Kustom Jobs no longer restrict you to only 1 of that vehicle. The Waaagh! also got a boost with an extra point of strength and an invulnerable save included now!
The Adeptus Mechanicus had a few other restrictions lifted from previous versions. The Ballistarii and Dragoons got the CORE keyword again. Additionally, there have been some stratagem tweaks.
Combined with the changes from the War Zone Nephilim the Balance Dataslate really is changing up the Meta of Matched play quite a bit. I would not be shocked to see a very different landscape in the weeks to come for 40k.
What do you think of these changes? Any others that stood out to you?
