Age of Sigmar: Fun in the Sun – Armies to Work on this Summer
It’s ridiculously hot outside; why not bring some of that heat to the Age of Sigmar tabletop?
Independence Day has passed here in the States, and that means the true heat of summer is upon us. Everyone is enjoying (or tolerating) the heat in their own way, and everybody is out of school and looking for things to do. So…why not spend that time starting a brand new army? There are plenty of armies with fire or summer themes, and if you like summer activities, there’s probably an army for you. Thanks to Vanguard boxes, there’s no better time to start, so take a look at a few army picks based on your favorite summer activity.
The Beach/Fishing – Idoneth Deepkin
If your favorite summer jam is heading to the beach, why not play an army of ocean dwellers? The armies of the Idoneth can bring the ocean to bear in even the most land locked region, thanks to their mastery of the Aetheric Sea. With this army, you can bring the beach to you wherever you happen to be, and enjoy all the beach classics like music, sharks, and shielding your eyes from the sun. Just be careful with the blind ones, or the tides might wash away more than just your sand castle.
Sunbathing – Daughters of Khaine
If you prefer relaxing in the sun with a good book over splashing around in the ocean, the Daughters of Khaine might fit your vibe. They also enjoy having as much skin out as possible, so at least your fashion will match. Sure they don’t tan quite as quickly, and they might be a LITTLE murder happy, but what’s a little crazy when you look this good? Plus, once they’re done with battle, they already have their knives ready for a summer barbecue. Speaking of…
Cookouts – Ogor Mawtribes
For those of you who love to get your closest friends and family together to cook steaks, burgers, or shiskabob, the Ogor Kingdoms will happily crash your party. These guys will eat anything, and love cookouts so make that they made an entire religion around eating. And it doesn’t matter what you throw on the grill, these guys will scarf it down, followed by the cutlery, the grill, and maybe even a guest or two. Just keep the food coming and you’ll be fine…probably.
Camping – Sylvaneth
Some folks like to spend the warmer months deep in the woods with nature, and the Sylvaneth are the perfect army for that. While they might be a little extra militant about campfire safety, as long as you’re respectful, you’re probably fine. Plus, they have a special rule dedicated to Summer, so you can build an entire army themed around the steamy season. Just be careful where you step, also they revist the snapped twigs on your fingers.
Campfire Stories – Nighthaunt
Honestly my pick, one of the best things to do during the summer is make a campfire, roast some marshmallows, and pull out your scariest ghost story. If that’s your idea of a good time, then why not make a ghost story of your own with the Nighthaunt. Sporting all manner of spectres from different spooky tales, you’ll find something to fit your needs. The Banshee, the Man With A Missing Toe, every fantasy phantom can find their way into your army with a little creative liberty. And best of all, they won’t try to eat your marshmallows.
