Age of Sigmar: The 5 Greatest Wizards In The Mortal Realms
The Mortal Realms of the Age of Sigmar are packed with spells and sorcery. But these 5 wizards stand out above the rest.
When it comes to the Wizards of the Mortal Realms there are certainly powerhouses. Today, we’re looking at 5 that rise above the rest (least in terms of their lore). These are the gods of magic when it comes to spell slinging in the Age of Sigmar.
Teclis is the god of the Realm of Hysh. He’s the embodiment of the Lore of Light. But even before he became that he was a mighty Wizard from the Old World. He’s at the top of our list simply because he made another standout on this list his magical whipping boy. By lore standards, that feat alone should propel him to the top of any list!
Lord Kroak is a force of will. His long dead and mumimifed corpse still (somehow) allows him to manifest on battlefields on the Mortal Realms and exert his magical prowess. In the lore he once had the power to shift entire continents. While he might not be that strong, he can still call down comets from the heavens and summon Starborne warriors on his enemies. He might be “dead” but he’s managed to evade Death itself – -through sheer force of will! That’s why he’s on our list.
The self-proclaimed god of Death and ruler of the Realm of Shyish, Nagash is still one of the greatest wizards around. Sure, Teclis might have slapped him down and he never did manage to capture Lord Kroak’s soul…but he’s had one heck of a journey. From humble beginnings all the way to Godhood, he’s climbed quite the mountain. He’s had some help along the way but Nagash never quit. His schemes have topped kingdoms and changed the Mortal Realms forever. That’s why he’s on our list.
Ruleswise, Alarielle might not be the best caster in the game. But in the Lore, she’s the freakin’ Everqueen of the Realm of Ghyran. She runs that show and has quite literally grown her own faction. Her power might wax and wane with the seasons but when it’s her time to shine and make war her enemies don’t stand a chance. With her ability to be reborn and regrow Alarielle is a force to be respected. Underestimate her at your own peril.
We’ve seen the rise of Morathi in the Mortal Realms. Some might consider her a usperer of power or false god. Others might consider a symbol of what can be done with wisdom and cunning. Regardless of how you feel about her, Morathi has been playing the long game. She freed herself from Slaanesh, recreated the Daughters of Khaine, and rose to a state of godhood in the Mortal Realms. She’s gone through an Apotheosis and can now be in two places at once. The Shadow-Queen now continues her reign as one of the greatest wizards in the Mortal Realms!
Bonus: Kairos Fateweaver
We debated including Kairos on this list as he’s a Daemon of Chaos. Sure, he’s a powerful wizard but he’s also a creature borne from Chaos itself. Being a Daemon that inherently means the Chaos Gods (ie, Tzeentch) is more powerful than him — from a lore perspective. Although he did survive the Well of Eternity. But we don’t have rules for Tzeentch…so that’s why we’re putting Kairos here as a bonus entry.
These are the God-wizards of the Mortal Realms. We’ll be back with a list covering some of the greatest MORTAL wizards later.
