The Gnarlwood is packed with carnivorous plants that want to eat your warband. So why go in there? In a word: Treasure!

Warcry has a brutal new setting coming very soon with a new boxed set and some amazing terrain. In the previous seasons, the warbands fought in the shadow of the Varanspire to win the approval of Archaon or to go on their own epic adventures. So why have they ventured into the Gnarlwood in the land of Ghur? Games Workshop’s Phil Kelly has a breakdown of why — it’s for the phat loots.

Warcry Gnarlwood Lore

The Gnarlwood is packed with all those man-eating plants, ferocious predators, and treacherous pathways among the trees. It’s a place where pretty much everything is trying to kill you. But it’s also packed with loads of treasures. But where did these treasures come from? Well…do you remember the intro video? There was something that crashed in the Gnarlwood. Now we know what that was.

Turns out it was a Seraphon Temple Ship that was blown out of the cosmos and has crashed there. And it wasn’t your typical Temple Ship — it was carrying Realmshaper Engines. The ship along with it’s cargo has been smashed to pieces and scattered throughout the Gnarlwood. This is part of the reason the lands have grown up around the area and become so violent. Seraphon Realmshaper Magic is having quite the impact on the Gnarlwood.

It turns out that the Realmshaper ruins that are scattered in the Gnarlwood do more than just influence the landscape. There are artifacts among the ruins that can heal wounds, reverse aging, and perhaps even return the dead to life…

So you can see why these valuable treasure would be attractive to the warbands in the area. It’s certainly a risk but the rewards could absolutely be worth the trip. If they can manage to get in and then out with their treasures they will reap the rewards. Now, does anyone read Seraphon!? We’re mounting an expedition into the Gnarlwood and need some new recruits!
