‘Critical Role’ Teams Up With D&D Beyond For a ‘Radiant Citadel’ One-Shot
D&D Beyond has cooked up a special one-shot with familiar faces from Critical Role to show off Radiant Citadel in the best way possible.
D&D Beyond’s got a special glimpse inside of the upcoming Journey through the Radiant Citadel, and they’ve teamed up with a few Critical Role alums to bring it to you. Titled The Fiend of Hollow Mine, this is a one-shot that takes us all inside the Radiant Citadel.
And The Fiend of Hollow Mine is an especially exciting one. It takes place in a city located at the confluence of magical leylines. It’s a prosperous city full of inspiration and cultural reference taken from Mexico, as you can see in the artwork above.
D&D Beyond announced earlier this week that they’d be teaming up with Eugenio Vargas (Rivals of Waterdeep) to run an adventure featuring a cast including: Matt Mercer, Robbie Daymond, and Anjali Bhimani of Critical Role’s various adventures.

If you’re unfamiliar with the adventure, Fiend of Hollow Mine is a great inroad. Hollow Mine features a culture influenced by Mexican history. Written by Mario Ortegón, Fiend of Hollow Mine ties in many themes. One of the villages in the borderlands suffers from a strange disease.
As players encounter the afflicted, they are wrapped up in an investigation into the cause. But the adventure is farther reaching than that.
Ortegón wanted to showcase the diversity and disparity of the culture he grew up in. As a result, the adventure features many elements: a dungeon crawl, a prosperous city, and the impoverished borderlands. Ortegón wanted to display the contrast between the revelry of the city and the struggle of peoples at the borders.
And we also get a D&D version of Dia de Muertos. The Night of the Remembered is a time during which people can be visited by loved ones. Revolutionaries, fiends, and much much more await.
But you can see all of this for yourself in D&D Beyond’s Radiant Citadel one-shot.
