D&D: New Multiverse Hopping ‘Unearthed Arcana’ Adds New Cleric, Races, & More
A new multiverse hopping Unearthed Arcana from WotC reveals that planar adventures are just beginning in Dungeons & Dragons.
Big news for D&D’s multiverse as a spate of new plane hopping rules and archetypes dropped. That’s right in a multiverse hopping Unearthed Arcana, we got a look at a brand new Cleric subclass, new spells, and more.
But what is all of this foretelling? Spelljammer: Adventures in Space is due out in a few short weeks. This means that the Unearthed Arcana is for a later book. And from the look of it, that book is full of new and exciting adventures in far-off places.
Multiverse Hopping Unearthed Arcana
Titled Wonders of the Multiverse, this new Unearthed Arcana takes us on a tour of different parts of the multiverse. Starting with the clockwork plane of Mechanus, and a new player race: the Glitchling.
Glitchlings are winged, human-like creatures made from a merger of magic and machine. They’re explorers who travel the multiverse, learning what they can, and returning to Mechanus to report what they know.
Though many become enamored of the people they encounter, or the places they travel, and make a life all their own. There’s always a little chaos in order, and order in chaos.
As far as D&D races go, this one is pretty spicy. They get a base AC of 14 + Dex, and can treat any roll of less than 10 (on a d20) as though it had come up a natural 10.
But that’s just the start. A new Cleric Subclass: the Fate Domain adds multiversal madness to your divine magic. With a list of fate-altering bonus spells like dissonant whispers or death ward, you’ll never be short of ways to twist fate.
All that’s icing on the cake of a font of fate-focused features. Things like Omens and Portents mean you can always read the future, while Ties that Bind lets you deal extra damage or healing to a single target.
It’s an unusual suite of divination powers, but one of these combined with a Divination Wizard will be incredible.
New Backgrounds & More
There’s a spate of new backgrounds that mix more multiverse into the player’s hands. You could be a Gate Warden and be a character who’s spent time in a place influenced by planar portals. Or a Giant Foundling, raised around giants. There are four all in all, but what makes them especially interesting is how each background is connected to a feat.
This feels like WotC’s new direction for D&D going forward. New backgrounds give players access to feats.
We’ll take a closer look at some of the new feat trees introduced in the multiverse hopping Unearthed Arcana along with the new spells in another article. But for now, check out the whole thing for yourself.
