Horus Heresy: The Five Best Units in the Legacies PDF
Today take a look at the best units for Horus Heresy Age of Darkness from the recently released Legacies PDF. There are some gems!
Warhammer Community released a PDF with new rules for a slew of alternate units for the new edition of Horus Heresy and there are some absolute classics in there. These are some of the best kinds of Warhammer rules (free!) and units. Some of the units have models, some have discontinued models, and some never even had models. From odd Consularis upgrades, to esoteric units, to a whole breadth of Imperial Army super heavies, this list has it all.
Here are my five favorites for every Age of Darkness Praetor to consider for your strike force!
Legion Warmonger Consul
The Warmonger is awesome for one simple reason: the Aetheric Junction Splicer– that’s right! He, and any unit he joins, gains the (very rare in Horus Heresy) Deep Strike rule. From Deep Striking Support Squads, to more traditional Terminators, to a Jetbike squadron, things will get weird when the Warmonger is around.
Legion Spatha Attack Bike Squadron
The classic Attack Bike squadron is a class cooler in the Horus Heresy. Whereas their 40K counterparts are limited to Heavy Bolters and Multi-meltas, Spatha Attack Bike Squadrons can also have Heavy Flamers and even Autocannons! In addition, Legion Attack Bikes also come in units as large as five, which means they can really lay down the fire power. The old girl still has some hidden tricks!
Legion Castra Ferrum Dreadnought Talon (the Boxnought!)
The classic box Dreadnought finally has rules in Horus Heresy again. That was a truly dark few weeks, but all is right again now that the Castra Ferrum is back on the scene. These things look pretty great, even compared to the Contemptor. The box dread loses one Toughness, Strength, Wound and two Initiative compared to a Contemptor, but starts at a full fifty points less base cost. Now they even sport an invulnerable granting deflector like the Contemptor!
Legion Land Raider Phobos
The 40K Land Raider has a certain charm- and that charm is an Assault Ramp. When you want to viciously charge out of a normal-sized Land Raider, neither the Heresy Proteus or the Spartan will do the job. Enter the humble Phobos. Nothing delivers Mortarion and a select group of Deathshroud to their preferred destination like this bad boy. The Age of Darkness Phobos also gets to swap out those hull heavy bolters for something more fun- like more lascannons!
Legion Stormlord
It’s a transport! It’s a firebase! The Legion Stormlord is an amazing Lord of War to center an army around, as Bigred did with his Dusk Raiders Blackshields army. While the new iteration has a smaller Transport Capacity than it used to, the offensive profile of the Titan-class Vulcan mega-bolter more than makes up for it. Space Marines really did have more fun during the Heresy.
Now get out there my fellow Legionaries! What are your favorite hidden gems in the Legacies PDF?
