Age of Sigmar: ‘Hammer And Bolter’ Teasing A New Steam Tank Style Warmachine
Hammer And Bolter is getting a new episode today and it sure looks like Games Workshop is updating the Steam Tank for AoS 3.0.
Everyone’s probably familiar with the iconic Steam Tank from Warhammer. It’s one of the Old World’s most memorable warmachines and a mainstay in just about every edition of Warhammer: Fantasy.
The Classic Steam Tank
Steam Tank AoS 3.0
Well, it did get ported over to Warhammer: Age of Sigmar but it never got an update. Other than the round base. But we’ve seen Games Workshop take old units or concepts and reimagine them into something new and different. They’ve even taken entire armies and re-imagined them into something new. And I think they are about to do something grand to the Steam Tank, too. Meet the Cog Fort:
This is the official image from Games Workshop. It’s been pulled from the upcoming episode of Hammer And Bolter titled: Monsters. The image has a few Cities of Sigmar guys running around — probably from a Dawnbringer Crusade. We can use those guys for scale. The main eye-catching image is the Cog Fort however. It’s got a familiar looking shape and a massive cannon at the fore. But it’s not on treds…it’s on mechanical spider-like legs!
Spider Tank – Wild Wild West (1999)
Whoa, whoa, whoa…It’s not full on Spider Tank here. But you get the idea. It’s certainly taking the concept of the Steam Tank from the Old Empire and updating it with some big changes. On one hand this could just be a fun artist creation for the series. On the other…this could very well be a teaser for a new Age of Sigmar unit.
We know that the Dawnbringer Crusades are happening all over the Mortal Realms. That’s been a plot point that’s kind of taken a backseat recently. We also know that the Cities of Sigmar is due for a new book eventually and what better way to do that then to relaunch that army as The Dawnbringer Crusades — along with some spicy new kits to match? And before you think that the kit is too large or something let’s not forget about things like 40k Knights or even the AoS Kharadron Overlords!
Sigmarites have been working with Duradins for a long time. Is a giant steams spider tank really so far off in the Mortal Realms of AoS?
So what do you think? Fun teaser for a new unit or just a random warmachine for the Warhammer+ series? Drop us a line in the comments on which one you think it is!
