Crossover Event: Best Action Comedy Movies
The crew talks about what they think the best action comedy movies are – I think they missed a few. Check out this week’s Crossover Event!
Like peanut butter and chocolate, action and comedy are greater than the sum of their parts. Exciting and dramatic, but also heartwarming and hilarious, action comedy movies are always a great time… except Shanghai Knights. Join Chris, Martin, and Wright as they talk about their favorites.
Some of My Favorite Action Comedy Movies
A lot of the guys’ picks are on my list of faves, but they missed a trio that I highly recommend. They have great performances, spectacular writing, and action scenes you won’t forget.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)
Part of RDJ’s come back, this movie also stars Val Kilmer in one of the highlights of his career. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a tongue-in-cheek and modern adaptation of a 1941 hardboiled crime novel. An actor and PI get caught up in the drama of a rich Hollywood family and a bunch of bumbling murders. It is hilarious. Kilmer and Downey have amazing chemistry.
Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels (1998)
Guy Ritchie’s first and break-out movie (and I still think it’s his best). Lock Stock also brought us Vinnie Jones and Jason Statham. A card sharp loses £500k to a crime lord in a rigged game. In order to pay his debts, he gathers a gang of friends to rob another gang that’s operating out of the apartment next door. Hijinks and wonderful black humor ensue.
The Blues Brothers (1980)
It’s got action, comedy, and some amazing musical performances. Plus Carrie Fisher with heavy weapons and one of the best car chases on film. The Blues Brothers spawned from an SNL bit by John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd, it’s directed by Jon Landis. It tells the tale of Elwood and Jake who are on a “mission from god” to save an orphanage by paying its back taxes. It’s amazing.
