Everything We Saw in the ‘Star Wars: Andor’ Trailer Breakdown
The latest Andor trailer dropped yesterday, and this is what we noticed and are looking forward to seeing on September 21st.
The latest Andor trailer dropped yesterday, and it was full of details, sneak-peaks, and characters we haven’t seen for a little while. Let’s break down everything we saw and what we’re looking forward to seeing in Disney+’s Andor this fall.
Young Cassian Andor
We already know that Cassian (Diego Luna) has been part of the rebellion for nearly his entire life. According to him, this has been his life since he was six years old. And it looks like we’ll be getting a glimpse of those very early years. We’ve been told already that this show would have a number of time jumps and focus in part on what radicalized a young Andor. And we may have gotten our first glimpse at his home world of Fest or possibly Ferrix. The trailer shows a young child and a woman hiking up a mountain, stopping at the sight of TIE fighters in the distance. We’re pretty sure that’s a child version of Cassian Andor and his mother. And I can’t imagine anything good will happen if the result will be a radicalized and rebellion-minded Andor by age six.
Imperial Forces
The trailer portrays the Empire in its full force. “The Empire is choking us so slowly, we’re starting not to notice,” says new character Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgard) as we scan over countless Stormtroopers and Imperial Officers. And something about the Empire just seems more organized and powerful right now. The crisp white uniforms sprinkled in with the standard Imperial gray almost drive home how nothing can tough the Empire at this moment. We already know that the Rebellion is little more than an annoyance to the Empire until the events of Rogue One turn the tide of the war, and I think this is a show that’s going to show us the Empire in its full, terrible glory. Which might mean an introduction to some new people as well as new divisions and specializations.
Familiar Faces
Of course, Andor is giving us a few familiar faces to look forward to. Rebellion leader Mon Mothma (Genevive O’Reilly) has long been confirmed as a member of the Andor cast. But we also got a look at freedom fighter Saw Gerrera (Forest Witaker). Saw was part of Rogue One, so having him included in this series is both surprising and not. This is a character with no love for the Empire, so knowing that he’ll have help or information for a budding Rebel intelligence officer makes sense. Plus, he’s one of those fan-favorite characters that we love seeing on screen.
But towards the end of the trailer, we get a look at a goggled orange alien who bears a striking resemblance to Maz Kanata. Introduced during the prequel movies, we know that Maz is old on the same level as Yoda, so she may well be alive and involved with rebel efforts at this point in the timeline. But there has been no word of Lupita Nyong’o making a return to the galaxy for this show. Plus this mystery character seems to have four human-like arms, which is decidedly not Maz-like. Only time will tell for sure, however.
Andor will begin streaming on Disney+. Premiering on September 21st, three episodes will be released at once with weekly episodes after.
