Urza’s AI is a neural network that creates MTG cards based solely off a name that you give it, and it’s endlessly fun.

Urza’s AI has been my source of entertainment this week. The premise is simple: give it a name, get a card. The AI will generate a brand new card based on the name it is given. The card is “finetuned on cards from the 3 decades of Magic the Gathering history”. Plus, the WOMBO API also generates card art as well, using cues from the card type.

No accounting for the quality of the card

The cards even get some flavor text as well. Sometimes the flavor text really nails it and other times you’re reminded computers don’t fully understand humans yet.

At the bottom of the page, there are Advanced Options which let you use Gatherer terms to finetune your card to your liking. Also, you can crank up the Creativity to really let Urza’s AI run wild. This usually generates cards that don’t make a ton of mechanical sense but are great for a laugh.

I do not endorse cutting a bunch of kids in half, regardless of what they are made of.

I have the most fun with nonsense words. Words that feel like they could be actual words.

You can also leave the name field blank and let Urza’s AI come up with whatever it wants.

Finally, if you’re an absolute madlad, there is Urza’s AI Deckbuilder. This will generate an entire deck’s worth of cards for you based on a name you give to the deck.

Be forewarned: This takes a while. But, if you’re feeling saucy, I say go for it.

I would absolutely love to download an AI-generated deck into Cockatrice or something and do a whole draft. The absolute unbalanced insanity is exactly the sort of gameplay I love.

This feels like it’s trying to say something, but I’m not sure exactly what.
