Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game is landing on your favorite console soon so prepare for the invasion!

Remember Killer Klowns From Outer Space? When’s the last time you even thought about it? If you’re putting together a campy Halloween movie playlist, maybe it’s crossed your mind more recently than some others. But aside from that, how long has it been? Well, the 1988 classic is getting some new life next year with an upcoming video game.

Killer Klowns From Your Favorite Console

Gamescom had a surprise announcement this week with a reveal of the upcoming Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game. And it looks absolutely zany! But from the tone to the soundtrack it honestly looks like the perfect level of campy horror comedy fun.

‘Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror based on the iconic ‘80s film. In the battle between Killer Klowns and citizens of Crescent Cove, team up and use your wits to harvest humans or save them from the alien invasion!’ – Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game Official Website

This is looking like a team game with “outlandish abilities” and “zany weapons” where you can harvest humans with the Klowns or fight and sabotage them as a human. It doesn’t seem quite as much “horror” as “silly and fun,” but considering the source material I think that may be a more honest approach to it.

The animation in the trailer looks great, but it comes with a little “in progress” note. So the visuals of the completed game remain to be seen. But based on what we’ve seen in the trailer, I’m optimistic that Killer Klowns will be a good looking if slightly cartoony-looking game to play.

At this time Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game is set to launch in early 2023 and be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. But if you want to get a head start, they are taking sign-ups for beta players on the official website.

Killer Klowns From 1988

It’s fair to say that Killer Klowns From Outer Space is a cult classic. A spaceship that looks like a circus tent comes to a small town filled with aliens that look like clowns and want to kill people with circus-themed weapons. It’s silly, it’s strange, it’s campy, and it’s full of gratuitous corn-syrup violence. And with a Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 60%, you probably either love how goofy it is, or you hate it.

For a few years, there were talks of a sequel or a remake or possibly a “requel.” But it never quite panned out. Perhaps this is just as well, though. Some things are perfect in their campiness the first time.

If you need more though, Universal Studios made a short video to promo the Klowns’ inclusion in their Halloween Horror Nights this autumn.
