‘One Punch Man’ Anime is (Finally) Getting a Third Season!
After years of waiting and wondering, fans rejoice at the news that One Punch Man will be back for a third season.
One Punch Man is known for being a hilarious take on the superhero genre, becoming insanely very quickly, popular, and having just two seasons despite ten years worth of manga and a dedicated fanbase. By this point, most of us had probably given up hope of seeing any more of Saitama’s story animated. I know I did. So we were all surprised when season three was finally announced this week!
Season Three
the 215th chapter of the manga revealed on Thursday that the long-awaited third season was finally happening. Season one aired from October through December of 2015 and then released a handful of OVAs. By September 2016 the second season had been confirmed, running from April until July 2019. The time between seasons was marked with some issues as both the director and production company were changed up, making for some changes in animation quality. While season one was a knockout hit across the board, season two received a more luke-warm reception. So when talk of a season three suddenly transitioned into total silence, we were disappointed but not entirely surprised.
And hey, the manga kept coming out. That’s not nothing.
Naturally, we’re all interested to know more about season three, now that it’s officially on its way. Who of the original cast will be returning? What studio will be animating the next chapter one of ONE’s story? When can we expect to see One Punch Man streaming into all of our living rooms? And unfortunately, we still have no idea. In fact, all we know for sure is that the character designer from seasons one and two, Chikashi Kubota, will be back and drew the visual teaser of Saitama and Garou.
About One Punch Man
One Punch Man began as a webcomic by ONE, who is also known for another absurdly popular and delightfully weird show, Mob Psycho 100. Before it was redrawn by Yasuke Murata for print release, it had a very different art style which I can only describe as ‘purposefully messy and ugly but in a good way.’ But I think this art style acts as a testament to the quality of writing and comedy in both of these series.
The story follows Saitama, the strongest man in the world who can defeat any enemy or monster with a single punch. Hence the show’s title. Only now he’s bored. Being too good is boring and alienating and for whatever reason, the other superheroes in town won’t take him seriously. The show is full of ridiculous super-powered characters- and a few without- and the comfortable, relatable slice-of-life antics of an adult trying to make friends, play video games, and spend as little as possible on groceries. Until monsters and supervillains show up.
Are you looking forward to the third season of One Punch Man? What studio would you like to see tackle the next arc or Saitama’s story? Are you excited to finally see Garou take center stage as this season’s big bad? Let us know in the comments!
