Star Wars: The Most Underappreciated Ship In The Galaxy – Gozanti-Class Cruiser Breakdown
One of the longest-serving ships around gets far less love than it deserves. Join us as we break down the Gozanti-class Cruiser.
During the Twilight of the Republic, one ship managed to distinguish itself both in combat and usefulness. Its design was so well-structured that vessels of its class remained in service (and of use) to the Republic and its enemies. From the Republic to the Empire, no ship has done more than the Gozanti-class cruiser.
Its design inspired the Black Sun frigate, the Imperial Gozanti-class cruiser, the C-ROC Gozanti-class light cruiser, the IGV-55 surveillance vessel, and last but not least, the Gozanti-class Assault Carrier. It even bridged the gap to the First-Order Resistance War with the Gozanti Armed Transport.
Underrated Design, Impeccable Usefulness
The Gozanti-class cruiser left an indelible mark on galactic history. And though it may, at times, be relegated to the background, it is as ubiquitous as the sand on Tattooine.
As a result, this ship can be seen in ships across the galaxy. Gozanti-class cruisers were a masterwork of the Corellian Engineering Corporation.
It was designed to function as a freighter as well as a cruiser. Which meant flexibility. And with flexibility came versatility. With relative ease, owners could modify the hull to accommodate a variety of loadouts. Most commonly: a twin laser turret in a dorsal mount and a heavy laser cannon on the ventral side.
Other variants relied on the Gozanti’s flexibility to mount proton torpedo launchers, dual quad laser cannons, and extra heavy laser cannons alongside the ventral mount. Since it could suit nearly any purpose, the Gozanti-class cruiser was used by both Republic and Separatist forces, even the Black Sun cartel, which made use of its cargo capacity for their smuggling operation.
History of the Gozanti-class Cruiser
As early as 34BBY the Corellian Engineering Corporation rolled out the first of the Gozanti-class cruisers. And they quickly spread throughout the galaxy. Gozanti-class vessels could be seen even as far as Tattooine in time for the Boona Eve Classic that same year.
Throughout the Clone Wars, the cruiser proved to be useful to its various interests. The Black Sun used the cruisers and was pressed into service with Darth Maul’s Shadow Collective.
On the planet of Balnab, a crashed cruiser gave a crew of pit droids the leverage they needed to rule the planet’s organic denizens. Until R2-D2 and C-3PO convinced the locals to rise up against their droid overlords.
From criminals to corsairs the Gozanti-class vessel is one you’ll find in the background of every major event of galactic importance.
