Star Wars: X-Wing ‘Battle of Yavin’ Battle Pack Coming Soon
Atomic Mass Games has announced a new Battle of Yavin Battle Pack that’s coming soon. But what the heck is it?
You may have seen the image pop up on social media lately from Atomic Mass Games proclaiming the Battle of Yavin Battle Pack is coming soon. It’s accompanied by an image of an T-65 X-Wing being chased by 3 TIEs. Or two TIE Fighters and an a TIE Advanced, presumably Darth Vader based on the context, if you want to be specific.
If you’re a fan of Star Wars, then you probably know where this comes from. It’s the Death Star Trench Run. And that’s exactly what the Battle of Yavin Battle Pack is going to allow you to recreate. Just without actually giving you the physical ships.
X-WING 2ND ED: BATTLE OF YAVIN BATTLE PACK $24.99 (Pre-Order)
“Players can recreate one of the most iconic Star Wars battles with this new product for Star Wars: X-Wing! The Battle of Yavin Scenario Pack puts players in the middle of this climatic battle with unique rules that cast one player as the Rebels desperately attempting to destroy the Death Star with a successful trench run and the other player leading the Imperial defense. Featuring 20 new cards that combine pilots and upgrades into a standard loadout, this pack gives players plenty of ways to customize their squadron and experience this thrilling battle over and over again!”
If you just skipped over the product description you might have missed the details of the contents. Here they are in an easier to read format:
- 20 Ship Cards
- 2 Oversized Scenario Exclusive Upgrade Cards
- 8 Death Star Trench Tokens
- 11 New Ship Bases
- 1 Rules Insert
There aren’t any physical ships in the box. However, you get a ton of Ship cards and updated 2.0 bases for some classic ships. So if you already have the old ships but missed a refresh for whatever reason you can now buy this pack to get the updates.
In the above image you can also see all the ship cards you’re going to get as well. These are new Standard Loadout ship cards that you can use in the scenarios right off the bat.
This is an interesting concept for X-Wing for the more casual players out there. If you’re looking for more of a cinematic or narrative style experience, or if you’re just looking for a change of pace from a typical X-Wing game, this could be a fun pickup. I’m curious about the actual scenario rules as this could basically turn the Trench Run into more of a board game style experience.
I mean…what fan of Star Wars wouldn’t want to give the Trench Run a go?
