‘The Last of Us’ – First Peek at the HBOMax Series Starring Pedro Pascal
The show has been in the works for about 2 years now – we’re finally getting a peek at what The Last of Us going to look like.
In The Last of Us Joel, a tough as nails survivalist, is hired to smuggle Ellie out of a quarantine zone. Civilization has completely collapsed and is ravaged by a fungus that turns people into violent creatures. The journey across the US is brutal and the two must depend on one another to survive. All while dealing with their own problems. The game centers heartbreaking and inspiring story that deserves a live-action adaptation.
And we have a glimpse of the new live action series thanks to this HBOMax sizzle reel. It’s gonna be gritty.
The Last of Us – What We Know
The project was announced in the spring of 2020 (easy to miss given what was going on at the time) with Craig Mazin, creator of HBO’s award-winning Chernobyl miniseries, attached as showrunner.
Bella Ramsey is Ellie – you likely know her as the wise beyond her years Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones. She was amazing in the role and her turn in more family-friendly projects has proven that she’s a very versatile actor. I think she’s a great choice to bring Ellie’s struggles to the screen. Joel is being played by Pedro Pascal. That guy from Game of Thrones, The Mandalorian, and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
The first season focuses on the events in the first game. It’s been confirmed that Riley (Storm Reid), Tess (Anna Torv), Bill (Nick Offerman), and Marlene (Merle Dandridge) will make appearances among others in the game. There isn’t a release date but expect early to mid-next year.
