Warner Bros. Does a Smart Thing – ‘Evil Dead Rise’ to Release in Theaters
The next demonic invasion is coming. Fans rejoice – Evil Dead Rise has gotten a surprise upgrade to the big screen.
The fifth movie in the Evil Dead franchise is a tale of two sisters trying to patch things up. Their visit is interrupted by the rise of flesh-possessing demons started by a mysterious book. The pair are forced to fight for survival in a nightmarish version of a family reunion.
8 months, 1 Covid Lockdown, 6,500 litres of blood, and more memories than my brain can even process. That is a wrap on #EvilDeadRise. Thank you New Zealand, it’s been a blast. Time to head home and cut this beast together. pic.twitter.com/iyah4vEEqL

Evil Dead Rise was announced back in 2020 and wrapped production in 2021. Production had to deal with pandemic shutdowns. It was an HBOMax exclusive, making it the first of the Evil Dead movies to go straight to streaming. No more. It’s been moved to being a theater only release.
Warner Bros. has been canceling things left and right and pushing tent pole movies back by months. The fact that this is getting elevated to a theatrical release is kind of amazing. It says a lot about the studio’s confidence and that the previews had high scores.
This is all excellent news for fans of the franchise.
The Details
Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground) is directing; he also wrote the screenplay based on Sam Raimi’s creation. Raimi and Bruce Campbell are producers. Evil Dead Rise stars Alyssa Sutherland, Lily Sullivan, Morgan Davies, and Jayden Daniels.
“A road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A. apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”
Evil Dead Rise will hit theaters on April 21st, 2023.
