Ryan has some thoughts on the Predator itself which we’ll cover in the days to come. So for now we’re just going to focus on what’s in the box. And the answer to that is guns. Lots of guns.
Aside from the traditional Predator Autocannon option, you’ve got 3 other turret options: a gravis lascannon, a volkite macro-saker, or a graviton cannon. All of which fill different roles and fire at various ranges. If you wanted to specialize with your Predator you’re going to need to start with whichever turret option and build from there.
From there you’ll want to choose which sponson options best compliment the Predator turret. If you want a swiss army knife Predator you could opt for weapons that are “opposite” of the turret. Or if you wanted to hyper specialize, you could go with weapons that fill a similar role. All lascannons, all the time — that’s what we went for.
Assembly-wise this one went together pretty easy. It was honestly a little strange in a nostalgic kind of way. Having built many a Rhino chassis in my day this was a lot like that. Only…different. This kit had some slight improvements vs the old school Rhino-chassis kits and frankly was easier to build. There was only one hiccup that I wanted to share with you all today.
When assembling the hull, these fins on the bottom that slot into the sides were SUPER tight. I don’t know if the tolerances were off or what, but it’s more than just a “snug” fit. I had to shave them down and even then I had to apply extra force to get them where they needed to go. So just FYI when you’re building your own — be aware of those fins and try not to break the hull when assembling it.
Aside from that, it was a pretty easy going build. If you’re looking to add a Predator or two (or more) to your Horus Heresy list then the Deimos Pattern is a good kit to do that with. Just be sure you pick a loadout that works best for you and the list you want to build! Heck, we didn’t even mention the pintle mounted options…
So. Many. Guns.
