We got our hands on the Leagues of Votann Army Set and went in blind! What’s in the box? Let’s take a look to find out.

The Squats have been reborn into a new and exciting army known as the Leagues of Votann! We’re taking a deep dive into the contents of the army set and it’s quite impressive. It also had a bunch of brand new stuff and made-up words that I butchered horribly. My apologies.

The Leagues of Votann Army Set Unboxing

When I sat down to unbox the army set for the Leagues of Votann there were still a TON of things that Games Workshop hadn’t shown off yet. There were units and names (and in particular) a character I had no idea about. Fast forward to now and I know the difference between a Hearthkyn Warriors and the Hernyn Pioneers. Made up names for things you’ve never seen before are hard.

Anyhow, aside from my struggles to pronounce a word I had never seen before, this box was/is pretty amazing. The Leagues of Votann Army Set is packed full of all the goodies you’ll need to kickstart your very own Leagues of Votann Army. Doubly so if you’re wanting to play the “default” option for the Greater Thurian League because Uthar the Destined is the one (and only) unique character in the army (so far).

He also happens to be the default Kâhl kit as well. So if you aren’t playing as the Greater Thurian League and just want to have a cool Kâhl to lead your army…you can build him however you want. The kits are pretty well stocked in terms of options to build. There’s a ton of different bits and weapons to choose from as well a LOTS of various heads to glue in place for your forces.

I did come across one uh…tip(?) when building the Hearthkyn: Those fully enclosed helmets are tricky. They each only fit in a specific way and because they are basically hollow if you don’t slot them in just right they are going to slide out of position. I don’t have any advice on assembling them so maybe that’s more of a warning.

The box contains 25 miniatures in total. You’ll get 20 Hearthkyn Warriors — the core troops of your army. Then you’ll get a Kâhl and an Einhyr Champion. And the last three models are the Hernkyn Pioneers.

Building everything from the kit wasn’t too bad — although it was time consuming. Those Sprues are as densely packed as these Kyn are stout! And, because I had never seen these models before much less assembled them before, it took me longer than a typical build. That sai, I think now that I’ve gotten them under my belt the next batch should only go quicker.

This army set has a lot going for it aside from just the models. The Cards and Codex are going to be very well loved for all Leagues of Votann players, too. If you want to get our thoughts on the codex and the army as a whole check out Goatboy’s impressions of it.

I’m personally pretty pleased with the models themselves and I’ve very tempted to give them a go on the tabletop. There’s still a bunch more units that need to get released but when they do…Oh boy. It might be time to bring the hammer down on starting a Leagues of Votann force!
