Warhammer 40K: Leagues Of Votann – ‘More To Come’
Games Workshop isn’t closing the book on the Leagues of Votann with the upcoming round of releases. There’s “more to come” for them!
Yesterday, we noted that the revealed Leagues of Votann units still left plenty of room to grow for that army. Well today, Games Workshop’s Jes Goodwin comments on the fact that the Leagues aren’t done yet, either.
The Warhammer Community team sat down with Andy Clark and Jes Goodwin to discuss the design of the Leagues of Votann. It’s certainly worth a read. What stood out from the article was how they were trying to thread the line between nods to the obvious dwarven themes but also not just make the Leagues of Votann “Dwarves in Space” — much like how the Aeldari aren’t just “Elves in Space.”
Reading through the article you can tell they were both excited about the reimagining of this army and the collaborative nature of the army design. That’s all well and good but what caught our attention was this snippet towards the end:
“We’re giving a varied sampler of the different factions within the race, with room for expansion… There’ll be more to come – as the Kin themselves know, the work is never done.””
Emphasis added. To us, this really confirms the fact that this first tidal wave of Leagues of Votann releases really is just the Vanguard. There are more units planned and more *stuff* coming for the Leagues in the future.
As we already noted there are lots of places the Leagues can expand. More characters, more vehicles, more troopers — really it’s where ever GW wants to take them. And we also noted this isn’t the first time we’ve seen GW release the initial seeds of a new army only to add more to them at a later date. It happened with the Adeptus Mechanicus and for an even more recent example, the Lumineth Realm-lords in Age of Sigmar. They basically got 3 books within a few short months of each other. Plus they are still getting new units to add to their army (to go along with their upcoming Battletome).
While this tidbit isn’t that surprising it is welcomed news and it’s exciting to know that the Leagues of Votann aren’t done yet. What’s next for them and how long will we need to wait? That’s what we don’t know…but we waited a LONG time for them to arrive. This wait will be a drop in the bucket.
