D&D: Hasbro Announces New Vice President Of Dungeons & Dragons
Hasbro announced a new senior VP of Dungeons & Dragons earlier this week: Dawn Rawson, formly of Microsoft Dynamics 365. Here’s what we know.
Earlier this week Hasbro announced both a new role at WotC and the person filling it. The new role was Senior Vice President of Dungeons & Dragons, a role which presumably has the same authority as a non-D&D vice president. So if there’s a tie in the Dungeon and or Dragons, presumably they’ll cast the tiebreaking vote.
Filling the shoes of the new role: Dan Rawson, former COO of Microsoft Dynamics 365. Here’s what we know.
Hasbro Appoints New Senior Vice President of D&D
According to Hasbro’s announcement, Rawson will be stepping in with his “decades of leadership in strategic business, e-commerce, and product management.”
Dan Rawson has joined Wizards of the Coast in a newly created role as Senior Vice President of Dungeons & Dragons. Mr. Rawson, formerly COO of Microsoft Dynamics 365, brings decades of leadership in strategic business, e-commerce, and product management. In this new role, he will lead overall Dungeons & Dragons brand growth and profitability across digital, physical, and entertainment.
The focus on digital and entertainment feels like an extension of WotC’s big push as leaders of Hasbro’s digital endeavors. Rawson was tapped to help expand the opportunities afforded by WotC’s recent acquisition of D&D Beyond:
In May, Wizards of the Coast completed its acquisition of D&D Beyond, the popular digital companion to Dungeons & Dragons used by over 10 million registered players. Since then, Wizards has continued to build upon the success of D&D Beyond, expanding the toolset’s capabilities to bring communities together for world-class digital RPG play. Mr. Rawson’s e-commerce skillset and digital-first experience will lend itself to continuing to support the growth of D&D Beyond alongside Dungeons & Dragons overall.
Rawson stated that he was “thrilled to work with a talented team to expand the global reach of D&D.”
Happy adventuring
