The saga of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger continues with some new perspectives on Black Adam, The Flash 2, Cavill’s Superman & more.

A newly-published feature in the Hollywood Reporter painted the portrait of a rocky landscape behind the curtain at Warner Bros. Discovery and the DC Comics corner of their universe. President of DC Films Walter Hamada is unceremoniously on his way out in one of many of Warner-Discovery’s major changes after the merger. The article illuminated some of the goings-on behind the scenes of the DC movies – including a scramble for IPs and several different on-screen universes. It also introduced two bits of news that DC fans will be interested inhearing.

Flash 2 is Already Written

The biggest news out of the article is, perhaps, a sequel to the yet-to-be-released Flash movie that has a completed script. On the surface, that seems weird – the film has had more than its fair share of difficulty getting through production. The Flash originally struggled to get off to secure its writer and director.

The Flash 2, according to THR‘s sources, has been written by Aquaman writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. The screenwriter also penned the upcoming Aquaman sequel The Lost Kingdom, and the first Aquaman was the highest-grossing film in the DCEU so far. His other credits include OrphanThe Conjuring 2, and some episodes of The Walking Dead.

The biggest hurdle The Flash has faced in terms of production has been the involvement of the film’s star Ezra Miller. Miller’s legal troubles have certainly made the road to release difficult – at one point, there were reportedly talks of cancellation or recasting. But will $200 million spent already, Warner Bros. Discover isn’t letting The Flash speed quietly into the night.

The Flash is currently slated to hit theaters in June 2023.

James Gunn Wants More DC

And we want more of James Gunn’s DC! In addition to the upcoming season of Peacemaker, Gunn is teaming up with producer Peter Safran (both Shazam! movies) to bring one or two DC projects to life. Gunn’s grap could be for anything – according to the article, DC’s IPs are in high demand right now with DC’s big leadership role still in question.

James Gunn has introduced so many D-list characters from the comics into the DCEU that guessing which projects he’s lining up could be a great deal of fun. Personally I wouldn’t be mad to get another peek at Nathan Fillion’s TDK character.
