WotC Sells MTG Boosters With Power-9 For $1000 – Makes Them Illegal In Every Format
MTG 30th Anniversary Packs are going on sale next month and people are already incredibly upset about everything about this.
Magic: The Gathering is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. To commemorate the event, WotC is selling boosters to “commemorative, jaw-dropping, mind-blowing thing that would cement itself in our collective memories as we look toward the next 30 years of Magic.”

MTG 30th Anniversary Pack
This pack costs $999 and contains 4 special 30th anniversary booster packs. Each pack contains 15 cards, 13 cards in the modern frame—1 rare, 3 uncommons, 7 commons, and 2 basic lands—plus one basic land in the retro frame, one additional retro frame card, and a token.
Starting on November 28th, the box will be available for purchase at 30thEdition.wizards.com
Each of the MTG 30th Anniversary Packs are inspired by Limited Edition Beta, and contains many iconic cards, like Shivan Dragon, Volcanic Island, Channel, and more. But most notably, also Black Lotus, the Moxes, Ancestral Recall, and others.
Since dual lands are so iconic to early Magic, the dual lands are twice as frequent in the MTG 30th Anniversary Packs. This is for the retro-frame and modern frame.
A few cards have been left on the editing room floor. Mostly, anything that revolved around ante. These are Contract from Below, Darkpact, Demonic Attorney, Earthbind, Weakness, Crusade.
Not Tournament Legal
The reason people are upset is that none of these cards are not tournament-legal in any format. They have an entirely redesigned card back.
So, for $1000, you can buy 4 booster packs with cards you can only use casually. You’re going to need to find someone very into the casual Magic scene to find the target audience for this box.
Overall, this is a collector’s item. You’re more likely to see these cards in a display case, rather than in a deck.
