New ‘Willow’ Series Trailer – Adventure Rules & Humor Shines
The magical adventure and laughs continue in the Willow series starring Warkwick Davis – on streaming on Disney+ later this month.
Willow was one of those movies that kids that grew up in the 1980s were enamored by and terrified of. That transmutation scene on a big theater screen was horrifying when I was 6. It is one of those fantasy movies (like Dragonslayer, The Never Ending Story, and The Dark Crystal) from the era that came off as being kid-friendly in marketing but had dark fantasy imagery and horror elements. Parents were not exactly fans and learned that PG/PG-13 wasn’t for small children quickly.
The tale of Elora Danan and the magic surrounding it has since become a favorite memory as an adult. So when Lucasfilm announced a sequel led by Davis back in 2020 I got excited – still am. The series that stars Warkwick Davis as Willow Ufgood will stream on Disney+ this month. A new adventure filled with magic and humor awaits!
Willow Series Details
Davis has a new party for this journey. Not all of the character names are available, but the cast from left: Tony Revolori, Amar Chadha-Patel, Ellie Bamber as Dove, Ruby Cruz as Kit, and Erin Kellyman (who you may recognize from the MCU) as Jade.
The returning cast also includes Joanne Whalley as Sorsha, plus Kevin Pollak and Rick Overton as brownies.
The story began when an aspiring sorcerer, played by Warwick Davis, is whisked away on a journey to protect an infant empress Elora Danan and vanquish the evil Queen Bavmorda from their world of Andowyne. Now, the story continues with Davis reprising his titular role, as he leads an unlikely crew of heroes on a quest to protect Andowyne from an even larger foe than they had imagined possible.
The original movie’s director, Ron Howard, is an executive producer. Director Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights) is helming the pilot, and the showrunners are Jonathan Kasdan (Solo) and Wendy Mericle (Arrow).
Willow starts streaming on Disney+ on November 30.
